This summer seemed to pass in the blink of an eye. Fall is in the air and we are beginning a new school year.

Here are a few tips to keep everyone moving along safely as we transition from a summer mindset to work and school.

  1. Observe School Zone Speed Limits
  2. Obey the Crossing Guard
  3. Watch for Darting Children
  4. Don’t Pass a School Bus when its Signal Lights are Flashing.
  5. SLOW DOWN

Everyone is in a rush to get to school, work or appointments on time. Packing lunches, getting the kids dressed, checking homework, walking the dog, getting yourself ready, picking up your morning coffee etc. etc. Please pack a little extra patience and be courteous of others. A smile goes a long way to diffuse a stressful morning.

Along with a new school year, we have other exciting improvements happening in our neighbourhood.

Armour Heights received a generous gift from a Library customer who lived in the community and wanted to give back to help improve accessibility and inclusivity for branch customers.

Remaining at the same location, this renovation will maximize our services to the community and give the branch a clean 21st century design. The staff will remain the same.

In partnership with architect, Paul DaCunha, Toronto Public Library (TPL) is committed to creating a library that welcomes all. With intuitive design and accessible service points, this improved branch will be an exciting public space for everyone.

The current branch location will close for a minimum of 6 months during renovations. We will be offering library service at an alternate site once a week.

Closest alternative branch is the Barbara Frum Library Branch, 20 Covington Rd., (off Bathurst 1 block north of Lawrence on the west side) 416-395-5440.

Other Neighbourhood Improvements

Painted Bell Box

Bathurst Street construction is coming to an end. We will no longer have to navigate our way around potholes and there is a welcome addition of a bike lane to make it safer for everyone. Keep your eyes open for more beautification along Bathurst Street in the coming weeks.

Lots more upgrades. Our neighbourhood McDonalds is getting a major overhaul, grand opening September 9. The Shell station at the corner of Haddington and Avenue Rd. has also undergone a renovation. Many new stores openings along Bathurst and Avenue Road.

Keep your eyes peeled for beautifully painted Bell boxes courtesy of local artists. Discover all the changes yourself, enjoy a stroll on a fabulous fall day and you’ll be pleasantly surprised with every discovery.

UACA wishes everyone a safe, happy and productive year.
